The Age of Great Writing

the age of miracles

I’ve just read the most interesting book that I couldn’t put down. The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker. You could describe this as Science Fiction, but it doesn’t quite get there. There is one idea at the heart of this story and it expands and expands until it takes over and you come to the conclusion. The earth is “Slowing”. The rotation of the earth, that is. The story is told from the pre-teen perspective of Julia, where we are told and shown all the effects of the slowing of the earth’s rotation. I love, love, love reading a book that makes it impossible to put down. I had to know what was going to happen next and I was disappointed. In fact, I haven’t found a book as easy to read and interesting since the recent reading of Doctor Sleep by Stephen King. I can’t wait to see what Walker has in store for us next.
